6 of Swords

Finally getting out of muddy waters. This card is a kind of like a sigh of relief. It’s not over yet, but it’s on it’s way. The seeker is moving on, getting away from past upset and old energy, and moving forward into new energy that suits a fresh purpose. It can mean literal travel, short trips, and movement into the future.

Up:
This card represents a crossroads in a seeker’s life where the Universe kicks in some luck. It’s a critical point in the seeker’s journey where situations begin to change for the better. Listening to trusted guidance will help. Things that were problematic and seemed like thick brush that was impossible to move through, suddenly parts into a path to allow passage. It’s an acknowledgment that past mistakes are being used as lessons and not being repeated.

Reversed:

When this card is upside down, it can mean a no-go with travel plans or a recent return. It can also refer to the seeker continuing on a path that is not in his or her best interest. They may be having trouble on this path already and this card shows the continuation into troubled waters. Often this can be remedied, but the seeker won’t allow anyone in to help, almost keeping secrets in order to keep the attention turned from what the seeker believes to look like failure.

It can mean pride getting in the way of a solution. When there’s a somewhat logical way to resolve an issue, the seeker is blind to it, not getting advice from others. When you see this card in a spread it shows that there is not quick way for an issue to resolve itself. It’s going to require some time, grace, and self-forgiveness.

8 of Wands

Oh! Fast Communication of the positive variety, by email, fax, phone, or in-person—it’s exciting and swift information on it’s way to you. This is a word that I made up—but for me this card means quickity! (It makes sense.)

Up:
This card indicates that things are picking up, orders are being made, marketing efforts are coming into fruition. It promotes fast timing for a positive change of plans or turn of events. Falling in love quickly ( surrounding cups cards), needing more communication or marketing for business (wands), hiring a quick thinker that is imperative to a business group (swords), or money coming in unexpectedly (pentacles). The seeker has luck for travel at this time and is advised to take all risk-related offers. It might feel as if things are too good to be true, but they’re good to go.

Reversed:
oooof. Talk about nothing going down how it was supposed to. Car troubles. Computer troubles. Misunderstandings. Delays in travel. Possible stagnation in work and business. The best case scenario is to deal with old business and organize things that you’ve been neglecting. (Feels like Mercury Retrograde.)

4 of Cups

The 4 of Cups shows that you’re not sure if a decision is your Divine right path, because you’re not certain of your Divine right path—so you blow it off… It’s like you’re asleep to what’s best for you.

Up:
For some reason: apathy, ego, untrusting—you’re not game to or taking an opportunity that falls in your path. I always feel like something is deceitfully covering up this opportunity that has to do with fear or what someone else thinks is best for you. What are the surrounding cards? Peer pressure may be telling you this isn’t the type of thing that’s good for you. Really look into what’s available and what you’re capable of.

Reversed:

This is one of those cards that isn’t negative when it’s reversed. Score! It indicates taking on and accepting an opportunity that will benefit you for a long time to come. You’re ready for a new friendship or romantic relationship. You’re motivated. Nothing and no one is holding you back from clear thought when accepting this gift of opportunity.

The 9 of Pentacles

One of my favorite cards, the 9 of Pentacles is an independent woman who makes her own security financially, is very comfortable in her own skin, and enjoys life on her terms.

Up:
This can be a person who has created happiness and harmony for themselves. One who may spend time alone enjoying life and the things that delight them. This card can also represent a home or office atmosphere that is harmonious. It can refer to money being spent on furniture, home improvements, real estate, or studio decor. This card represents a lifestyle that is pleasing to the seeker or characteristics of someone whom the seeker will be able to identify. The solitary aspect of this card can be a clue into the seeker’s needs being met and those that are not met possibly driving them into a solitary lifestyle, and life goals that may not be shared with partners.

Reversed:
I never like to see this card reversed in spreads simply because it means there’s a rift in the force at home or in the office. Something has caused a disrupt in chi. Sometimes it’s merely a repair of some kind, though it can also be cause for more serious matters such as the loss of money, selling of real estate out of need for money, the need to reestablish a business or project, or the need to start over.

Pip Cards and Numerology

Pip cards have elemental values as well as numerical values.
Pythagoras believed that life can be analyzed and explained through numerical terms. Each number has meaning. When you combine elemental values and the meanings that go along with the pip numbers, you can start to really see a story come together through the cards.

Even numbers have feminine energy and Odd numbers masculine.

0: Fool card. 0 Unbiased potential. If the Fool card is reversed it can mean old business or something that you’ve experienced before.

1: Aces. New beginnings in the most literal sense. Birth of a child, a project, a relationship. Reversed indicates delays of these things. Ace of Swords reversed straight out just means no.

2: Choices presented, decisions to be made, partnership, nurturing a part of yourself (e.g. the Lovers card sometimes symbolizes this). Back-and-forth contemplation.

3: Wisdom of the Goddess triad: maiden, mother and crone. Partnerships forming a group. Insight into a situation: the third eye.

4: Foundations, security, equality, material manifestations. Homes, marriage, solid business.

5: Opposite of 4’s feeling of foundation, 5’s are about shakin’ it up. It’s about change, which can create insecurity. Not always a bad thing, change, it can create a sense of fighting for what’s right, self, or a situation. 5 can be seen as (or felt as) marketing and promoting, or fighting for your livelihood. Competition. This might feel like crisis or instability. It can be excitement.

6: The harmony number. Figuring things out. Reestablishing stability after a 5 stretch. Empowering yourself with knowledge through planning.

7: Introspective. Reevaluating. Analyzing. Can be disruptive to the harmony as you uncover some truths about why things played out the way they did, what exactly happened… A come to Jesus with self, if you will. Acknowledging reality and letting go of a fog you might have been living in. Waking up after nurturing denial.

8: Power number. Material manifestation (4) times 2. This is also the infinity number. Universe number that reminds us of abundance. “There’s not just one flower, there are fields.”

9: A cycle is complete. Fulfillment achieved from this completion.

10: Abundance to an excess. A bit of duality: the cycle is over and a new one is beginning. 0 and 1 at the same time. Potential and starting all at once. Kinetic energy.
